Cookie Policy
The short version: rickey.app sets one cookie, only if you choose a language. Here is the long version.
Last updated: 2026-08-25
What this site stores on your device
One cookie, and only if you ask for it. If you click the EN / ES switcher, we store your choice so the site keeps opening in that language. Nothing else is stored: no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and nothing at all if you never touch the switcher.
| Cookie | What it is for | How long it lasts | Type |
|---|
lang | Remembers whether you chose English or Spanish, so you are not sent back to the other one on your next visit. Its entire value is "en" or "es". | One year, or until you delete it | Functional — set by us, not shared with anyone |
It contains no name, no email address and no identifier, and it cannot be used to recognise you anywhere else. It is set by this website only, is never sent to a third party, and you can delete it at any time from your browser settings — the site works exactly the same afterwards.
Your browser will also cache pages, images and fonts as it does for any website, so the site loads faster the second time. That is ordinary browser behaviour, it stores no information about you, and you can clear it at any time.
How we choose which language to show you
On your first visit we read the language your browser already announces on every request it makes — the Accept-Language header, which comes from your device settings. If it says you read Spanish, we take you to the Spanish version. That reading stores nothing and creates no cookie; the header is sent to every website you visit whether or not it looks at it.
If you then pick a language yourself, your choice wins from that point on — that is the cookie above, and it is the only reason it exists. Both versions always stay reachable at their own addresses, so you can link to either one directly and it will open in the language you linked to.
Why you were not asked to accept cookies
Consent is required for storage that is not strictly necessary. A cookie that records a preference you actively expressed — clicking a language switcher — is treated as necessary to provide what you asked for, so it does not require consent. That is why there is no banner: showing one for a cookie you cannot meaningfully decline, and which only exists because you clicked something, would be theatre rather than a choice.
The moment we add anything that is not in that category, the banner appears and it will have a real decline button.
What we deliberately do not do
- No analytics. We do not run Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom or anything else. We do not know how many people visit this site.
- No advertising or conversion pixels. No Meta pixel, no Google Ads tag, no TikTok pixel.
- No third-party embeds. No YouTube players, no social widgets, no chat bubbles — each of those sets cookies on the visitor’s behalf.
- No fonts loaded from Google. The typefaces are served from our own servers, so loading a page does not reveal your IP address to Google.
- No session cookie for the waitlist form. It sends your email address and nothing else — it does not need to know who you are between visits.
- No profile. The one cookie we set holds two letters and is not tied to anything about you.
Server logs
Cookies are not the only way a site can learn about a visitor. Our hosting provider, Render, records standard request logs — IP address, time, page requested, browser type — to serve the site and to block abuse. This is not a cookie and it is not tracking; it is the minimum a web server needs to answer a request. It is covered in the Privacy Policy.
The app
The Rickey app is not a website and does not use cookies. It stores your login session and an offline copy of your lists on your own device, so the app works without a signal — that data stays on your phone and is described in the Privacy Policy.
If this changes
If we ever add anything that stores data on your device beyond what is strictly necessary, we will update this page, and — where the law requires it — ask for your consent before it loads, with a real choice to decline. Questions: hola@buildpassing.com.
